Nepean Sailing Club answered our questions

Who are you as an organization?

We have a variety of Kids camps to choose for ages 6 through 17. We are located in the City of Ottawa along Lac Deschenes which gives us immediate access to the river. We focus on leadership, fun and the importance of being part of a team. Kids should expect to participate in a variety of on land and water activities. Sailing, Crossnet, Spikeball, relays, crafts with environmental awareness and discovery!

    • Special needs: Yes, mild support.
A few of our campers have special needs.
    • LGBTQ+ friendly community

What do you do differently or uniquely well?

    "Everyone belongs here.

We work hard to create a safe, collaborative, supportive space for kids to explore the world around them. We are uniquely positioned on the river and have been teaching water safety through sailing since 1979. This location and history of experience enables us to introduce kids to the freedom that comes when sailing. It also allows us to develop life skills through sport. "

Who are your staff and counsellors?

"We hire a variety of qualified staff every summer who believe in our goals and work extra hard to surpass our expectations.

Our Sailing Instructors are certified by Sail Canada, our national body. This requires courses, boat safety and up to date First Aid and CPR.

Our Camp Leaders also have experience working with kids in a variety of capacities and all have up to date First Aid and CPR.

As a group we work hard to engage every child onsite to ensure a fun, safe and active day. Everyday!"

What do families need to know about registration?

"All our camps registration is completed online including payment. We have a full time program manager who oversees this throughout the year. He is available to answer any and all questions you or your participant has. "

The Our Kids review of Nepean Sailing Club

    our take

“The goal is not to sail the boat, but rather to help the boat sail herself.” The Nepean Sailing Club introduces would-be sailors to the sport of sailing, and helps them develop their sea legs. Time flies by as kids and adults develop sailing skills in a fun and very hands-on way. Their award-winning program focuses on creating a safe and collaborative environment where kids are encouraged and have the freedom to explore and try out what they are learning. The Nepean Sailing Club is Canada’s largest and they cater to every level of sailor. Their camps incorporate both water and land sports, all of which help develop interpersonal skills, teamwork, and individual goal-setting and achievement. Leadership is a large part of sailing, and the instructors at The Nepean Sailing Club are highly-qualified and empower their students to become leaders as well. The equipment is well-maintained and they have a large range of boats, along with state-of-the-art facilities.
