(5) Overall experience
I have been attending Medics Camp since I was 6 years old and I have learned so much since then. The counselors and Ms. Amanda are all very nice, welcoming, and supportive of the students’ opinions. Me and my sister look forward to coming back every year during the summer because of the activities and cool experiments. This year I am looking forward to becoming a Falcon and volunteering for the younger children. It is an indoor camp, but there are intervals where we go outside to eat snacks and enjoy some fresh air. The camp and the instructors are all very well organized and fun to talk to. Every day at Medics camp is fun and interesting with lessons about science every day. We learn about CPR and how the body works, but every day is different with new activities and experiments. Looking forward to coming back this year!!!!!!
(5) Program quality and activities
Every year there are different experiments and activities that are my and many other students’ favourites. There are many experiments that all of us have not done before, but enjoy it very much! One of my favourites was when we did surgery on a banana last year, where we inserted a heart in the banana and stitched it back up with a needle and thread. Medics Camp pushes you out of your comfort zone and makes you try new things, but the staff is very patient and friendly and supportive of your opinions. It is your choice if you don’t want to participate in certain activities that you don’t feel comfortable with, but many of the activities are friendly and fun.
(5) Social dynamics and experience
When you first start camp and you first enter the classroom, you notice smiles on everyone’s faces and the table you sit at is full of friendly faces and laughter. Just by introducing yourself and being there, you make friends instantly and you can really have a strong relationship with them. They can be your new best friends and they are trustworthy and supportive. They were just like you when they came in for the first time.
(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors
The staff and instructors (especially Ms. Amanda) are very welcoming and you can see how happy they are to have you there. They are all supportive and friendly and they respect your opinions. They are easy to form bonds with, and they're happy to have conversations with you. Ms. Amanda in particular, has been a great influence and has been there to cheer you up and help you with ANYTHING. She makes your experience there a whole lot better and is extra supportive of you and your feelings.
(5) Advice and tips
For those coming for the first time, DON’T BE SCARED! You will have an awesome time and you will enjoy yourself all day. All you have to do is walk in with a smile on your face and don’t be afraid to answer, or ask questions. Everyone there is there to help or make new friends! Step out of your comfort zone for a change and get to experience the world of science!
