What do martial arts lessons teach?

Martial arts training equips children with the right combat and safety skills to be successful in a variety of martial arts. Karate, jiu-jitsu, and taekwondo are a few of the martial arts taught. Some programs offer training in one specific martial art, while others provide training in several. In all these programs, though, kids and teens learn self-defence, strategy, and leadership skills.

Games, sports, and arts and crafts activities are included in some martial arts programs—though, of course, the main focus is on martial arts training. Other camps or programs offer martial arts training as just one part of the curriculum, with other activities including fitness, gymnastics, and team sports like basketball and soccer

Depending on the martial arts style, children may participate in matches with other students. This often includes hand-to-hand combat; however, safety training is provided before competitions. Classes are available to kids ages 4 to 16, but only older kids are likely to participate in matches and competitions. Prices for martial arts classes range between $50 and $360 a lesson.

    About advanced martial arts lessons

Advanced martial arts programs and classes train kids in more than one style. Students learn the fundamental movements of each martial art such as takedowns in wrestling or jabs in boxing. This mixed curriculum challenges children’s endurance, which improves their conditioning, immune systems, and overall health. Kids are also able to choose a specific martial art in which they excel, and, perhaps, decide to pursue in a more specialized class.

Advanced classes also teach kids the importance of leadership and respect. By learning from expert instructors, kids and teens recognize what good leadership looks like. Instructors encourage students to lead by example to learn how to become good leaders in their academic, social, and professional lives.

Why enrol in a martial arts class?

Children receive in-depth training in martial arts lessons to reach their physical and athletic potential. Some other perks you can expect from these classes include:

    • Enlightenment is achieved in all martial art classes. Senseis train kids to be empathetic towards their teammates, opponents, and others partly in order to gain a strong sense of self.
    • Learn street smarts. Through self-defence and self-control practice, kids learn how to protect themselves. This can help them become more confident, independent, and resilient.
    • Kids gain courage as a result of their training, as they learn how to physically defend themselves and others and uphold what they believe in.
    • Kids often make new friends in class, as they practice their new skills with similar age peers. They also learn to support and collaborate with others in class.
