(5) Overall experience
Our kids had an exceptional experience with Legends Sports Camp. The staff were fun, friendly, and engaging with our children. From playing sports to indoor activities the children enjoyed going every day. Each week they had a special outing which consisted of either rock climbing, attending Wonderland, and trampoline jump parks just to name a few. The staff were attentive to the needs of the children, no one ever felt left out. They taught the children new skills in sports and communication daily. They kept an eye on their belongings and encouraged all children to be attentive to their articles and keep things tidy. They gave opportunities to earn points and awards throughout the week as our children were excited to share the prizes and potential sweet treats they could earn. The staff are attentive and aware of the weather and keep our children safe from the elements with reminders to wear hats or sunscreen, as well as during rainy weather to keep them indoors and entertained.
Legends Sports Camp is an amazing experience and we are thankful for the opportunities to attend each week and be a part of this inclusive and uplifting community. We wouldn't hesitate to send our children back in the future!
(5) Reason for choosing the camp
Our family chose this camp because it was advertised during our ball hockey games. The Riverdale Withrow ball hockey community is a fun and enlightened experience for our children during the ball hockey season. They were interactive and explained all of their activities and how their camps are run. The staff promoting the camp were eager and excited to share all the camp has to offer. It wasn't a decision we made ourselves. Our children heard the stories and experiences and they themselves wanted to try the camp. We were not disappointed. The experience was worth the investment and there were no hidden costs that we were not expecting. Everything was informative and explained prior to booking.
(5) Program quality and activities
Legends Sports Camp has an established itinerary for the weeks outlined in its programming prior to signing up. It has a detailed list of activities that they will be doing with the children on which day and what weeks and even a schedule for potential rainout days and what the children will be doing if rain does come on a particular day. We chose the path of a multi-sport camp which allowed the children to grow and experience their skills in a range of sports, ranging from soccer, tennis, ball hockey, hoop sports, etc. We found the staff helped our children with sports they were unfamiliar with and helped them develop an understanding of not only the rules but the basic skills needed to best perform in those particular sports.
(5) Social dynamics and experience
Our children made new friends in the camps and were excited to meet with them in the following weeks. Some of their friends took a week off from one week to another which made them sad, but then were eager to meet with them in the coming weeks. The families of the children were pleasant and accepting, often exchanging phone numbers for play dates, or otherwise making plans after the camp was over for a community swim or play in the playground adjacent. We did not experience any bullying for our children. Our children did mention there were a couple of mischievous kids who would be mean to others, but the staff did pay attention and spoke with those children. Our children mentioned the staff were very much aware of everything that was going on and no one was able to "be mean" without being spoken to by the people who were supervising them.
(5) Skills and growth
Our children gained more confidence in a public setting, being away from us and with other children they didn't know, brought out their confidence in meeting new kids and playing with them. They became more outspoken and able to talk with us about their experiences and what they liked and didn't like throughout their day. We found they replied with more than just "good" after being asked "How was your day?" Due to the amount of activities, they couldn't wait to share their excitement of the games they enjoyed or new things they learned.
(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors
The staff were fantastic. They knew every child's name after the first day and greeted the kids loudly and with excitement when they arrived every morning. The staff had no problems expressing their thoughts or concerns with anything they found throughout the day and engaged us when needed. Staff would notify us quickly when there was a change of venue either due to rain or certain facilities having problems ( like the pool closing due to unsanitary reasons). We never felt like we did not know where our kids were or what they were doing.
(5) Advice and tips
Don't be afraid to ask questions - the staff are friendly and engaging and are willing to answer all questions regarding the programming or experiences. If you have any thoughts or considerations for your children the staff and team are exceptionally accommodating and truly are there for your children to have the best possible experience each and every day of every week.
