Laurus Summer Camp

Laurus Camp's provide kids with a space to be themselves and to engage in activities that cater to their various interests. Our unique Specific Training Areas which provide opportunity in the sports, arts, & academic areas is designed to provide our campers, ages 3 to 15, with a unique learning experience. Each activity is led by our skilled  employees who are aspiring to be or are licensed teachers/child care specialists. They care for the safety, enjoyment, and learning experience of each child. Our 1/5 ratio of counsellor to camper provides families in Montreal & Laval with comfort throughout our summer & march seasons. Weekly yoga, Zumba, guest speakers, dance & drama performances are only the beginning!

The Our Kids review of Laurus Summer Camp

The directors of Laurus are go getters, to be sure, which in itself is part of the program. It’s about mentorship, getting people together who are enthusiastic about living active, engaged lifestyles, and who can broadcast their enthusiasm effectively to young people. Founder Philip Cutler, at age 25, became the youngest councillor ever elected in Westmount, and he hasn’t slowed down since. He and cofounder Gabriel D'Amico-Mazza exemplify what it means to live a life engaged with the community that they live within, from physical fitness to philanthropy. Instructors are chosen with those attributes in mind, including experience in education. The activities are varied and broad, from yoga to guest speakers. Participants come away having had fun, though also jazzed about the entire experience, including the people they’ve met and the environments that they’ve experienced.

Reviews & Testimonials

  • "Looking forward to seeing you all in 2019"
    Vicki Ajmo — Parent

Our girls have been part of the Laurus family for the past five summers. Every June, they walk through those doors and feel at home. I can’t wait to pick them up and hear the hilarious stories of kids just being kids and the camp allowing them to truly be themselves. The administration and counselors are amazing... always accommodating, friendly, warm and fun! Looking forward to seeing you all in 2019!

  • "Memories to Treasure!"
    Andrea Martin — Parent

My children have been attending Laurus for the past 4 summers and have had wonderful experiences there. The staff are attentive, warm and know how to engage the kids and make sure they have a great time. The number one rule of Laurus Summer Camp is after all to have fun and the team at Laurus really knows how to make this happen! Thanks to the whole team for giving our kids such great experiences and memories to treasure!

  • "The professionalism from the camp..."
    Sean Roseman — Parent

Laurus summer day camp was a great time for our daughter. The professionalism from the camp organizers to staff was great. They made my wife and I feel very comfortable signing up our daughter. It was our daughters first time at a day camp and she had a blast all summer. We originally only signed her up for a few weeks and then we kept adding on weeks for her as she loved it and ended up there all summer. Thank you again Laurus camp and see you next summer!

Director's Message

director

Ava Nouraeyan , Executive Director

Dear Parents,

Laurus Camp is more than just a place that celebrates the idea of "recess" all day. One of our main goals is to once again try to marry the concepts of education and enjoyment for the youth in our community. Too often we hear of the stresses related to school and kids are having a harder time finding the enjoyment linked to discovery and learning. Therefore, one of our main goals is to try and bring those concepts back together again to promote and cultivate creativity, ambition, the willingness to discover, to make mistakes and to learn from them.

We do this through a number of unique programs that we offer: firstly, through our Specific Training Areas (STA's) that provide campers with 75 minutes of focused learning on an area of interest, the purpose of this time is to learn about new concepts and ideas, while having fun. We offer programs in three main categories, Arts (Drama, Dance, Music, Art, and Cooking), Academics (English, French, Math, and Science), and Sports (Basketball, Soccer, Hockey, and Baseball). Campers work with a specialist in this field for 75 minutes every day (they can change their activities week to week) and by the end of each week, our campers always come out more curious and willing to try new things!

Secondly, we offer a unique Entrepreneurship and Fundraiser program for our Leadership Crew (ages 12 - 15). Our campers work with young entrepreneurs from their community on cultivating their own ideas and go through the process of brainstorming, predicting obstacles, and pitching their product to "dragons" in our own Dragon's Den. Our Fundraiser program, or #KIDSCAN as we like to call it, is geared at teaching our campers the importance of giving back to their community and in being active citizens. We have given to the SPCA, Alzheimer's Society of Montreal, the Vivo Fund, and the Bell Fund. Our kids help organize everything and with every week that goes by, their maturity and compassion grows.

Last, but certainly not least, our entire program is geared to promote a healthy lifestyle. We teach our campers how to work together, how to play together, and how to support one another. We bring guest speakers - i.e. Olympians, musical artists, etc. and offer our campers Yoga and Zumba too! We are a diverse camp that is inclusive in every way and wants nothing more than our campers to leave at the end of the day having learned something new, had fun while doing it, and who care for one another.

We hope that our LSC family continues to grow and that our dream of sparking discovery in the hearts and minds of all the campers we interact with every day continues to be our reality.

Sincerely,

Ava

For the past 3 years, our boys, 10 and 13, have been attending Laurus Summer Camp for the entire summer. From the various activities - fundraising for causes, sports, and cooking to the phenomenal counsellors - their summers are filled with joy. This camp inspires children to reach their full potential, it builds their confidence, and gets them thinking about the environment. I guarantee your children will skip out of bed to get to LSC camp!

I can certainly understand why we cannot convince our son to attend any other summer camp, even after 4 years.  Laurus Summer Camp is by far his favorite place to spend his summer holidays!  The instructors are awesome, each one is so attentive to the campers and incredibly dynamic.  The STA program is so diverse, allowing the kids to explore several different activities although our son prefers their sports, sports and more sports!  The lunch program is really helpful and the drop off location is so convenient for parents.  We are so grateful to have stumbled onto Laurus Summer Camp over 4 years ago and we leave our son at the camp 5-7 weeks per summer with peace of mind knowing that Ava and crew are really looking after him and that he’s so happy to be there.  Thank you Laurus team, keep up the amazing job!  See you in 6 months!

This summer was our first at Laurus Summer Camp. What really makes Laurus stand out to me? The counsellors! They are friendly and energetic while having the maturity to deal with high energy kids. My son came home happy and excited to tell me about his day - EVERY DAY.  We haven't experienced this with the other day camps he previously attended.  He enjoyed ordering lunches several times a week, and ending his day with a refreshing smoothie.  I loved that his days were well-rounded, filled with sports, crafts, science, and charity projects. We are already looking forward to next summer!
