The Pathfinder Program is one of two programs that make up the first year of Kandalore's leadership program with a focus on leadership, skill development, and connection to nature. The program is designed for campers who are seeking an incredible summer of growth and development as young leaders.

Pathfinders are junior leaders in our camp community, Pathfinders work to master their hard skills while improving essential counseling skills to work with campers and their peers.

Throughout the day Pathfinders have lessons based on camp life and curriculum from the Grade 11 gym credit Health Active Living Education, Grade 11 Open (PAD3O). Many Pathfinders will receive a high school credit for the work that they put in the program, as well as up to 40 volunteer hours. Pathfinders also work to achieve their Bronze Medallion and ORCKA canoeing levels. Pathfinders are to report to the Pathfinder Director.

Pathfinders are placed with cabins in the Prep Junior (PJ) and Inter sections during sectional evening programs and for some meals. Pathfinders participate in activities, engaging and motivating campers.

Pathfinders shadow LITs and staff members to observe how they manage camper issues such as homesickness and bullying to further their understanding and skills to work with children and become role models and leaders in their community.

Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Interpersonal skills: Kandalore leaders spend time in activities, and cabin placements to learn from counsellors, and LITs to develop important skills about working with and caring for campers. They also work on a variety of leadership skills including teamwork, communication, and mentorship.
  • Independence: Kandalore leaders develop independence through this 4-week leadership program. Leaders take part in in-camp programs, a 5-day whitewater canoe trip, and various leadership sessions.
