(4) Overall experience

My 6yo enjoy J. Addison’s camp, and she got to do group activities and met new people. Her mood is always happy and she would tell me great experiences after pickup. I would send her back for the convenience of the camp being close to our house and place. She never experienced anything that we need to speak with the school about so that is a great sign. She also fully enjoyed her field trips. They also have amazing meal plans as she described she fully enjoyed the ordered food daily.

(5) Reason for choosing the camp

Location is key. It was on our way to our younger daughter’s Montessori and her camp. Prices were competitive. No hidden costs, and they even had field trips. The price was worth it compared to other camps in the area. They had amazing brochures and an information package to inform us prior to our decision-making. We were also able to pick the weeks we wanted to attend. Before and after care is key.

(5) Program quality and activities

Going in, I knew that this summer camp would not be a particularly focused one, but the location and prices worked for us. We went in with lower expectations, so we were very happy. She enjoyed all the staff, and they seemed very friendly and attentive. Would go back for sure if all stayed the same. Their communication is always great.

(4.5) Social dynamics and experience

Yes she was able to meet new friends and felt included. They had creative groups, and she tells me about it. They have various age groups divided, so I believe she met friends of a similar age. This is good to keep the groups in a similar age to ensure the interest and conversion are maintained during the time they are there.

(2.5) Skills and growth

Nothing in particular for her growth for this camp, as we knew going in that we did not sign her up for a topic-specific camp. Although they had themes each week, they were simple themes, and education that would not be something I consider new for her growth. I wish it could be more. I wished I saw more team-building or group activities.

(3.5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors

The teachers always greeted me for before care and called my daughter by her name to ensure she felt welcome, even first thing in the morning. That’s amazing. The communication via WhatsApp before the start of camp and emails were all clear and effective. We were able to keep clear communication with staff always without an issue. What I would change or recommend is one day I did hear her say if she didn’t behave or was on the not good list she wouldn’t be able to go outside. They already do not comply with the daily outdoor activities recommended by Health Canada. This kind of reward and punishment system is not good.

(4) Advice and tips

They don’t have daily outdoor time; they rotate in groups going out throughout the week. I did not have high expectations of growth or interest development for this camp in particular, so I would not be disappointed. I feel like they are great overall but can improve in some areas. I would still recommend it to friends and be a returning camper next year.
