The Leader-in-training program is an intensive 200-hour course spread over four weeks, including a multi-day canoe trip and an internship on-site at Gracefield Camp. The course is a program of the Association des Camps du Quebec that covers a wide spectrum of leadership skill training which Gracefield augments with Christian camping content, worship and Bible study. Leaders-in-training receive instruction and the opportunity to apply their skills in camp safety and risk management; child development and leadership styles; camp skill development; games, archery, and outdoor living skills, ropes course, hiking, Bible study, worship leadership, drama, and music; First Aid training, wilderness practice scenarios and canoe skill training through the Ontario Recreational Canoe and Kayak Association (ORCKA) program.

The LIT program includes an internship working with campers, guests and staff on-site, and covering all parts of the camp from maintenance to camp counsellor, and kitchen to administration. An off-site multi-day canoe trip contributes to the development of team building and out-tripping skills. The LIT program is ideal for youth looking for experience working with children, planning on becoming a lifeguard, or wanting to bring their wilderness expertise to the next level. The LIT program is a stepping stone to many opportunities at camps and beyond.

Following the online registration, acceptance into the LIT program will require an additional application process, interview and references.

Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Courage: Our campers have multiple opportunities each day to step outside their comfort zone to try new things or push their limits in solo and group activities. Areas of challenge can include physical demands, unfamiliar environments, new skills and knowledge, and unexpected ideas and perspectives.
  • Curiosity: Our campers are encouraged to be curious as they explore the wonder of nature, try new activities, experience new ideas and perspectives expressed by staff and other campers, and ask questions about faith and beliefs. They have the opportunity to identify and pursue their interests.
