Executive Functions - Post-Secondary Success

This course helps prepare students for life beyond high school at College or University. Students will learn important strategies, tools and processes to ensure they approach academics in post-secondary with a proactive plan for success.  

We will examine study skills required to prepare for a variety of test questions and situations. Students will gain insight into what test questions are really asking of learners and how to ensure they are answering the complete question. Collaboratively, we will examine various approaches to maximize the impact of how we study including body doubling, use of manipulatives, working memory techniques and organizational approaches.

Students will be challenged with some collaborative problem-solving situations and will be taught the skills necessary to understand how to effectively advocate for their needs in a post-secondary environment.

Goal-setting is a large component of this course with an focus on accountability, revision of goals and long and short-term SMART goals.

Students will leave this course with knowledge and skills they can begin applying immediately to help solidify the use of effective tools and strategies so they become habits. The confidence gained by students in this course will help ensure they are well-supported to independently problem-solve and plan for success in a post-secondary environment.
