(5) Overall experience

My son has ADHD and was struggling with comprehension and was disengaged in school. He really didn’t care. I was concerned about what would happen to him in high school. When he started, he was a B/C student. With the help of Kelly, his marks have improved to an A/B student. His comprehension skills have improved. His attitude has improved as well. He’s engaged and wants to do well in school! It’s a long journey, but he’s on his way, and I’m less worried about high school. I highly recommend Kelly!

(5) Reason for choosing the program

What attracted me was that she was addressing his specific needs and challenges. It’s tailored to him vs other programs that may be more general and prescribed. The experience is worth the investment because of the good outcomes for my son. There were no hidden costs. There is ample flexibility offered.

(5) Program quality and activities

The sessions are geared towards his interests and needs. It is bespoke vs a set program. He’s not expected to sit there and listen. It is active learning. They go over actual projects/homework that he has to do for school, reviewing the success criteria. Then they develop an action plan together with my son taking the lead and Kelly providing prompts. This is valuable hands-on learning.

(5) Social dynamics and experience

This is one-on-one coaching, so no other children were involved. He did learn about how to work in groups for projects and do his fair share, and what that looks like. He was able to take these skills to improve how he works in groups at school and on teams. He learned to see the other person's point of view in situations.

(5) Skills and growth

My child learned how to dissect paragraphs and pull out the meaningful parts so he could comprehend what was being said. This enables him to consistently comprehend what he is reading. He has learned how to work on projects from the planning stage to the execution stage. He is learning how to study with different strategies, as this is more important as he goes into high school.

(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors

Very flexible when it comes to scheduling. If I have a conflict in the schedule, there is flexibility that we can reschedule for a different time or day. Schedules change from season to season, which helps me manage. I always receive an email about what is going to be worked on over the next few sessions. Or what the goal is. Then a follow-up email on what was worked on.

(5) Advice and tips

It is a commitment that must be attended as per the schedule. Missing sessions only delays the process and progress of the child. My son goes twice per week, which really helps to reinforce what was learned at the last session. I don’t think he would have progressed as much as he has if he had only gone 1 time per week. But each child is different. Consistency is key.

My child has always been hesitant and resistant to going to instructors for academic support. We had tried many other tutors in the past, and none seemed to be able to connect with him. After attendin...
