Who are you as an organization?

The Crusaders Rugby Club is a registered non-profit club dedicated to the promotion of, and participation in, sports in our community. Our club often referred to as The Cru or the Oakville Crusaders, is a community of more than 700 playing members from ages 4 to 74. Our programs focus on teamwork, making friends, trust, self-confidence, skill development, athletic development, values, enthusiasm, courage, active participation and an abundance of laughs! We are committed to providing a program for all players to develop their rugby skills, develop personally and grow their love of the game of rugby. At Crusaders, we are inclusive, safe, accessible and designed to welcome both complete beginners and the more experienced alike.

What do you do differently or uniquely well?

"Crusaders Rugby Club is one of the largest rugby clubs in North America, offering programs for players ages 4 to 74. In over 50 years as a club, we have worked to develop high-level teams, with many of our players going on to play for provincial, national and professional teams. We have also developed grassroots programs, helping to introduce the sport to the community, and establishing a large and welcoming club for all demographics and skill levels. Our club is committed to providing a program for all players to develop both their rugby skills and their love of rugby. At Cru, we emphasize camaraderie, leadership, fitness, and development, making our club a great choice for new and experienced players. "

Who are your staff and counsellors?

"The coaching staff at the Crusaders Rugby Club are all volunteers. Many have played rugby as children, and others have recently been introduced to the sport. Rugby has a unique culture in sport – one steeped in history, built on respect, teamwork and camaraderie. Crusaders coaches are committed to the holistic, healthy and supportive development of our players while imparting and upholding the core values of the sport – it's as much a part of our club’s culture as it is of the sport as a whole. Summer camp staff are university-aged who have all played high-level rugby and have been with the club for most of their rugby careers. "

What do families need to know about registration?

"We welcome all participants into our programs. Skill level is assessed upon entry to the club and used to ensure that every player is given the opportunity to grow their ability and passion for rugby. Registering as a club member allows individuals to participate in our core 15s and 7s seasons, May 1 – October 31. Members qualify to participate in any club programs during that period, including summer, autumn, camps, offseason programming etc. (unless otherwise specified and additional fees may apply). Membership and social membership registration can be done through our website, and summer camp registration is available on our club shop! Feel free to reach out with any questions regarding registration. "

The Our Kids review of Crusaders Rugby Club

    our take

Loving the sport of rugby is the only prerequisite for joining “The Cru”---the Crusaders Rugby Club. It is one of the largest in North America with a huge community of all ages of players. As a non-profit, volunteer-based organization, the club is very family oriented and everyone involved is very passionate about sport and about rugby in general. Their outdoor facilities are amazing, with 28 acres of tree-lined space for playing. While their programs and camps are there to teach kids the game and sportsmanship, there’s so much more to it than just that. Teamwork, trust, self confidence, and courage are among the other important skills that kids learn while at The Cru. Many players from this club go on to play professionally and they are supported the entire way. All counselors and coaches are experienced long-standing members of the clubs, who often grew up here as well. This is a very well put together organization.

We've been members for years and couldn't have chosen a better club to raise our family with. The opportunities it has provided for our kids is like nothing we could have ever imagined. And the best part is, our friends at the club have become family. #gocrug ... Show More

    Minis Summer Camp

My kids just did their first Cru Rugby Camp and had the best week. I felt very safe sending them there (post Covid lockdown) as so much of the camp takes place in their huge outdoor facilities, and they took all the new safety measures seriously. The camp leaders were brilliant and I love the fact that this camp has boys and girls of all ages playing together (so many camps split by gender and by age). It is a great introduction to rugby in a fun and accessible way. I'm glad we signed the kids up to Saturday rugby for the rest of the summer/fall as they were both very sad for camp to end ... Director's Message

    Chris Tudor Price, President

The Crusaders Rugby Club is one of the largest rugby clubs in North America, based in eastern Oakville. Our club, often referred to as The Cru or the Oakville Crusaders, is a community of more than 700 playing members from age 4 to 74. We have more than 500 girls and boys under 18 playing rugby in its various forms within the club. The club’s broader community of alumni, non-playing members and supporters is in the region of 3,500 people. The Crusaders Rugby Club is a non-profit, volunteer-based, inclusive and family-oriented club to which our board directors, coaches, alumni, parents and players donate significant amounts of their time.

In 2019, we started our camps program initially as a way to provide members' kids some summer fun. The camps have blossomed into summer-long programming, attracting more than 300 boys and girls from across the GTA throughout the summer. The camps are founded on the simple philosophy that sport is supposed to be fun and engaging for children. Our camps are all outdoors in our 28 acre park-like facility in Oakville and while rugby-oriented, they're much more than just that: they're multi-activity/multi-sport, about teamwork, making friends, trust, self-confidence, skill development, athletic development, values, enthusiasm, courage, active participation and, yes, abundant fun and laughs.

Our counsellors are university-aged club club members who have been members of the club from the age of 8 or younger, and played or continue to play rugby at national or provincial levels. Their passion for rugby, sport and activity will infect your children, and their love of fun will have your child jumping out of bed in the morning, every morning, to get to camp!

We encourage you to read our camp reviews and reach out to us at any time to discuss camp options.
