We want to bring the experience of adventure and discovering a new city to life for our campers. Our goal is for them to interact with people, places, and things from across the city and to learn lessons that they can bring with them as they grow into ever more independent people.

At the heart of this new program is giving the campers the tools to make their own decisions without walking them hand and hand through the experience. The campers will be given locations and activities on many selective maps around the city but it will be up to them to figure out how to get to these locations and which locations they want to go to. While pairing this with competition we hope to see campers move out of their comfort zones and push themselves to interact with the city on a deeper level.

The games will have puzzles and challenges that force them to look closely at places like the St. Lawrence market all the way to the Bloor West Village. Lessons will cover topics like history, accessibility, and transit to make campers more aware of the issues and formation of their urban environment while incentivizing them to focus so that may receive points for completing the lessons. Food spots from the widest breadth of international cuisines we could find will be visited daily to expand their sense of other cultures. Lastly, small tasks that can be done across the city will be options for campers to keep their eyes open to the small and mundane treasure that we pass by every day.

There will be more details on the program as the months go on that you can find on our website in the coming months.

It should also be noted that the large majority of these activities will take place outdoors and in large indoor spaces to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Further details on this are available on our website.

Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Independence: Independence is what City Scouts has always been about. We have tried and succeeded in creating a space where kids feel confident in exploring their city.
  • Curiosity: There is so much cities have to offer us and we hope to show that in our program. Our hope is that kids will take this lesson with them for the rest of their life as they explore cities around the world.
