Traveling by canoe in the wilderness is possibly the quintessential Canadian experience. For those who seek an exclusive tripping experience in one of the most pristine wilderness setting in Canada, look no further than this program! Young people who enjoy the natural world are sure to enjoy this program.
During this 2-week session, participants prepare for the trip by planning their meals, learning safety procedures, practicing paddling skills and learning how to use a map and compass. They are taken to Killarney Provincial Park or Algonquin Provincial Park, where they will be canoe tripping for the next 9 days. Each trip provides at least one rest day to enjoy the natural beauty of the park, and its rich natural history.
All the tripping staff are qualified with NLS Lifeguard certification. They have extensive tripping experience and have partaken in a 4-day Wilderness Advanced First Aid course. The trips are equipped with a satellite phone and/or 2-way messenger and an extensive first aid kit to ensure safety while on trip.
Once the campers have finished their journey in the wild, they return to camp for a day to unpack and unwind before saying goodbyes and heading home.
This program is a challenging trip due to the wilderness area of Killarney or Algonquin Park, and it is recommended that campers are in good shape, have been on at least one canoe tripping experience in the past, and are mentally and physically prepared to challenge themselves.
Our Canoe tripping program is intended to be a time for youth to develop their independence and confidence, while becoming a leader within their group. Learning to depend on each other, trippers come to recognize the importance and value of every team member.
