My daughter loves Artsies; the kids perform a Musical Theatre production on the second Thursday of the 2 week session. This is her 3rd summer of Artsies. She counts down in anticipation, waiting for the camp to start. Artsies challenges them to grow and be themselves. The camp moves quickly as they are learning their scripts, choreography and songs everyday.
Each session, she is more confident on stage. I’ve seen her teamwork and leadership skills grow. Artsies provides a recording of their show so they can watch it over and over again.
(5) Reason for choosing the camp
My friends recommended Artsies after seeing how much my daughter loved being on stage. After the first session, my daughter fell in love with Musical Theatre, Libby & Joey and the wonderful camp councillors. Artsies is my daughter’s camp of choice.
Libby & Joey will keep you in the loop! They have the best communication (videos & emails). We had our daughter on the bus service, and they sent text messages if the bus was running late
(5) Program quality and activities
Throughout the 2-week session, the kids get their very own part in the musical production. Artsies is super organized and provides a detailed itinerary for the 2 weeks. They sing together, they learn choreography to multiple dances, they are responsible for memorizing lines, they learn to be present and develop active listening skills. My daughter loves performing the show on stage in front of a large audience. There are lots of opportunities for the kids to be leaders to their peers & those younger or to learn from kids who are more experienced in their Musical Theatre journey. Libby and Joey have a wonderful way of expecting each person’s best, but doing so in such a loving and encouraging way.
(5) Social dynamics and experience
When you sign up for Artsies summer camp, you are choosing the age group for the grade that they will be starting in the fall. They are broken out into 4 different age groups. The beauty of Artsies is that all the different age groups get a chance to interact with one another. They will learn from one another through outdoor play or when they are learning to act out the various scenes. Artsies fosters inclusiveness.
(5) Skills and growth
My daughter continues to build her confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills at Artsies. Each session she attends, she gets a bigger role and is able to showcase her love of dance. Libby and Joey are great a casting and ensure that every child has a time to shine. They ensure the parts given can be learned and confidently performed in the 9 days they have to learn them.
Each session, Artsies invites a guest from the industry to work with the kids. This session, they had Kaleigh Gorka come and inspire the kids. She performed for the kids and provided them feedback, which they took to heart and put into practice.
(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors
I absolutely love Artsies and how well they communicate and keep the parents in the loop. They have the best communication. They are direct, organized and provide emails & videos to help you along the way. We had our daughter on the bus service, which always had a camp councillor on it, and they sent text messages if the bus was running late. If you reached out via email or Instagram, they always responded promptly.
As the kids prepare for the production, they will provide tips and guidance to the parents when needed to ensure that the kids are supported and can be their best on stage.
(5) Advice and tips
Your kid will love this camp. They will learn so much but they will likely be more tired than we they go to school so try not to book too many activities at night if they are going to this camp.
If you have a young child (going into grade 1) wanting to join, it is best if they know how to read. If they don’t know how to read, they will be more successful if you review their scripts with them so they can be more comfortable.
