Adventure Valley Day Camp in Oakville, Ontario, has been a great experience for our family. We had placed our oldest son in other day camps and—at no fault of the camps—he did not enjoy the experience, and it was tough to keep him motivated to attend. We then tried Adventure Valley for the final week of the summer, and he has thrived there. He immediately took to the culture and was awarded with a "big chair" award in his first week. He has made friends easily, eaten all the food provided, and loves the activities. He attended the next full summer, and this past summer his little brother joined him. It is a highlight of their year, and they show off their Adventure Valley gear and tell everyone about it. We are so happy to have found a place where we know they are happy, well supported, and trying new experiences. According to our oldest son, we will be part of Adventure Valley until he is a leader-in-training and eventually a councillor himself. They are definitely at home here.
Originally we choose this camp based on a positive review from a friend who also struggled to find a fit for their child. We chose it as our son was not coming home happy from other day camps we tried. It is an investment, but for us it is worth it. There are no hidden costs we weren't expecting.
The camp offers a wide range of activities, and both our boys really seem to enjoy the variety and quality of the programs. They come home excited each day, talking about what they did and who they met. Gaga ball, arts and crafts, and the moon shoes seem to be their absolute favourites, always getting mentioned first when they share stories.
Our boys have moved schools and have friends from Adventure Valley at this new school. They also have camp friends that we bump into from time to time in town. We have never had issues related to bullying or inclusion. Adventure Valley goes out of their way to have a culture of inclusion for everyone and is proud of that fact.
They have grown noticeably in confidence when meeting new people and have gained a stronger sense of self-worth through their achievements. Each new challenge at camp seems to give them a boost—whether it’s trying an unfamiliar activity, making new friends, trying new food, or accomplishing something they didn’t think they could do. It’s been great to see that progress.
The counsellors build genuine personal connections with our kids, helping them feel seen, valued, and understood. Our boys had the same counsellors all summer, which allowed those relationships to grow into something meaningful. At summer’s end, they even write personalized thank-you cards for each camper, which means a lot. Communication with staff is excellent. We received emails from camp as soon as an issue happened, and received prompt responses to any questions we had. We have not had any conflicts while attending Adventure Valley to date.
The weekly costumes are fun and add a lot of spirit to camp, but they can take some effort, so it helps to plan ahead and decide how much you want to commit. Paper mâché projects, for example, take more time than you might expect! Overall, the camp is excellent, and I’d recommend it to anyone if it fits your budget.
