(5) Overall experience

Adventure Valley has become a staple in my child's life. I originally chose it because of the location, but once she started, it became clear that this camp is different. Adventure Valley focuses on the individual children, and they ask about any areas your child needs development or help with, and then they actually work on those areas during the summer. I watched my daughter become a more confident child and really find a place where she can feel special and also find friendships. I truly love watching her excitement for camp each summer and seeing her thrive in the program. We will stay with Adventure Valley until she is old enough, then she dreams of becoming a counselor one day.

(4.5) Reason for choosing the camp

I originally chose this camp because it was close to my workplace. But once you start the registration process and filling out the camper forms, you realize it's more in-depth than just a day camp. It's a higher cost than other day programs, but completely worth the investment. Hot meals, snacks, a wide variety of activities and a fantastic location. It makes summer so much easier for the parents, and the kids love it.

(5) Program quality and activities

They have a wide variety of activities which keep the kids engaged, and the change in schedule every day means it doesn't get boring. My daughter loves Gaga Ball, the counselor's choice activity, and the karaoke recordings. What's great is: if the child is struggling or unsure of an activity, they take the time to help them feel comfortable and confident in it.

(4.5) Social dynamics and experience

My daughter has some social anxiety, especially in situations that are new. But within a few weeks of being at camp, she was comfortable and making friends. And several years in, she loves to see old friends and is confident in making new ones for the week. Any issues that arise are dealt with, and the parents are notified and able to have a conversation. The camp makes a point to stay on top of any issues and works with the kids to resolve conflicts.

(4.5) Skills and growth

They learn so many new games and crafts. She loves to come home and show us what she's made, and we have boondoggle bracelets for days around the house in the summer. Her first year, she was very nervous to try the Kanga shoes, and they worked with her until she was comfortable, and now they are a summer favourite!

(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors

The staff take the time to learn about the children and get to know them. It's always great to see them lined up to greet the kids in the morning, and the warm welcome my daughter receives always makes her feel good. We have been lucky to have had very few conflicts, but the staff and unit head in charge were communicative and open to conversations.

(5) Advice and tips

I think the parents do better when they stay informed and know the ins and outs of camp. Read the emails and newsletters, get involved in the costume Fridays, get excited about the rad tags, and remember the nicknames. It enhances the child's experience to feel like you are excited about camp, too. This camp is excellent, and I have referred multiple families to it and will continue to do so!
