(5) Overall experience

Both of our children have developed a fantastic rapport with their teaching instructor/tutor. Both boys started with a reluctance to work with a tutor, but have shifted to approaching their sessions with excitement. They have developed confidence in their literacy abilities which is also reflected in their academic performance. I would highly recommend Prep Academy to any parent contemplating bringing extra help into the home; we have seen many benefits. We plan to continue to use this program, as we continue to see the academic growth and benefits (in reading and writing) from our children attending.

(5) Reason for choosing the program

Prep Academy was recommended by a teacher at my children's school. Other families had given positive feedback to the teacher and when we asked if she could recommend a specific tutoring service, she did not hesitate to pass on the contact information; we are so glad that she did! We definitely think the investment is worthwhile, as we have observed several benefits. The price quoted was very clear and is the cost/session that we continue to pay.

(5) Program quality and activities

I really appreciate the flexibility in booking the sessions. We have 2 days a week with back-to-back 1 hour sessions for our 2 boys booked weekly. We are a busy family and have had to make occasional changes to these regularly scheduled sessions. The scheduling has always been very easy and communication very clear. Since both our boys participate in tutoring, their instructor incorporates a game at the end of the session where they compete against each other. The boys look forward to this at every session.

(5) Social dynamics and experience

This doesn't apply to the one-on-one tutoring. They have developed an excellent rapport with their tutor. This relationship has grown over the year and a half she has been teaching them. She works hard to ensure they work through their weekly lessons with a positive attitude and confidence, and are motivated to implement the skills learned. No issues related to bullying. No issues with inclusion. No issues required to be addressed.

(5) Skills and growth

Both boys have made academic gains in literacy. We have spoken with both of their school teachers and both teachers have reported a steady increase in their academic performance in both reading and writing. There is an increase in their willingness to participate and to push through any frustrations that arise when they encounter a word or activity they find challenging. The one-on-one, individualized sessions have definitely helped increase their academic success both in achievement and confidence.

(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors

Our tutor has a degree in education and is definitely qualified to assess and modify the sessions to provide individualized learning plans for each student to maximize their progress. Our tutor touches base with us at the end of every session. If we are not present, an email is sent to keep us up to date.

(5) Advice and tips

I only have good things to say! If you are hesitating, I recommend giving Prep Academy a try; we have found it tremendously beneficial for our children. Prior to having their tutor come into our home for the 1-hour sessions, our boys had just come out of the COVID-19 disruptions in their education and were approximately 2 years behind in literacy. They have worked very hard under the leadership and encouragement of their tutor to be at grade level. These personalized, one-on-one sessions, consistently, over time have helped them get back to grade level and given them the confidence and motivation to continue to grow.
