(5) Overall experience

My younger daughter attended the FALCON Camp 2 years ago when she was 13. She learned and practiced First Aid knowledge in the camp, and even today she feels very proud of the Canadian Red Cross First Aid certificate she received through the camp. The camp counsellor was nice and patient. My child loved the camp. She made friends there and even went back to Medics camp as a volunteer last year. My elder daughter attended FALCON camp last year. As a high school student who was uncertain about future plans at the time, she wanted to explore more. And luckily her camp experiences led to an amazing journey. Through conversations with her camp instructor (a university student in the medical science program), she was truly inspired and felt much more confident to pursue a future in this field. This year she indeed got into the same program as her camp instructor. I am grateful for my children's positive experiences at the FALCON camp. The founder Amanda is incredibly supportive of teens who have an interest in the healthcare industry. She is more than a camp owner. She is also a big thinker and a leader in bringing young minds to this industry. I strongly recommend FALCON camp for any teen who is interested in exploring the health / medical field.

(5) Reason for choosing the camp

I wanted my daughter to learn about some basic first-aid knowledge and skills. I came across the Medics camp. The content fits my child's interest and the way they teach medical knowledge seems fun and engaging. The camp class size seems good to me and the camp location is close to my home, so I chose it.

(5) Program quality and activities

The camp focuses on first-aid training and practice. Before the camp started, my child was instructed to complete the Red Cross First Aid training modules. And in the camp, they had opportunities to practice their knowledge. My child didn't have any first aid knowledge and experience before that, so she was nervous in the beginning. However, the camp instructor and counsellor were very friendly and patient, so my child found it fun to learn in the end and she even made new friends.

(4.5) Social dynamics and experience

My child is quite generally and she was nervous in the beginning of the camp. However, by the 2nd day, she made new friends during breaks and started to enjoy the camp fully. There was no issue related to bullying in her camp, and instead, she felt the class was friendly and inclusive, so she got to learn in a fun, relaxing environment.

(4.5) Skills and growth

My child went over the entire course of Red Cross First Aid and CPR and learned the knowledge in different modules. Then she had opportunities to practice the skills during the camp. The camp instructor was nice and patient. There might be times that my child did not feel comfortable practicing certain parts for example saving people from choking, but the camp instructor and counsellor let her take time and encouraged her to participate more. It's a positive experience.

(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors

The camp instructors are university students and they are very knowledgeable. They are also good at explaining medical knowledge in a simple way for teens to understand it. The camp instructor my children had is also inspiring. Staff and counsellors are well-trained and very responsive to questions and concerns. Manager Amanda is professional and she has high standards for her working staff.

(5) Advice and tips

Based on the exceptionally positive experiences my children had, I strongly recommend the Medics camp to any teens who might be interested in med/health science. If there is any advice, I hope they can offer more medic camps for high school students (age 14-17) that have a different focus other than First Aid, for example, bio-med to inspire more possibilities.
