(5) Overall experience

My daughter is 14 and has been with ARTSies for 2 years now and I can see the confidence and growth in her. She absolutely loves it. The confidence to speak and be animated in front of an audience really do translate into her classroom presentations at school. The feedback I get from her teachers at school is very consistent - they enjoy watching her present. She engages the class and her monologues are full of emotions and she's just so comfortable up there. We're so happy we found ARTSies and we're definitely continuing with them into high school.

(5) Reason for choosing the camp

The main selling point originally for us in choosing ARTSies was the location. We were looking for a musical theatre arts program close to home and of course it needs to be good as well. I went through their YouTube channel, really enjoyed the videos and I can see they have a diverse group of kids ranging from elementary school-age to teens and I knew my daughter would fit in very well. The instructors seem fun as well. I'm happy we chose ARTSies. It is definitely worth the investment.

(5) Program quality and activities

It introduces my child to improvisation, singing, dancing, and acting. It also provides an environment for her to build friendships and develop teamwork as well. ARTSies is great at communication - parents are always updated with any upcoming activities/dates, etc. The live shows are so professionally executed - from lighting to backdrops to props to microphones that these kids wear - You would think you're actually watching a live professional musical. It's amazing! Great experience for the kids, absolutely.

(5) Social dynamics and experience

A very inclusive and great place for building friendships. I have not heard of any issues related to bullying. Everyone there is very friendly - from the kids to the parents and instructors. Another example of how they encourage on-the-spot acting is the improv skits that everyone is part of and it really helps bring out the goofiness of the kids - it allows them to be social, act silly, and laugh about it.

(5) Skills and growth

Confidence - is the skill she gained from attending ARTSies. She enjoys doing presentations at school. The feedback we receive from her teachers at school is that she's very good at presenting and always engages the class. She loves dancing, acting, and singing but she's very uncomfortable singing solo - she finds it challenging. The instructors at ARTSies always encourage the students to get out of their comfort zone and try something new each time, that's the only way they can grow. So this season, her goal is to pick a role that will have at least one or two lines of solo singing as a start.

(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors

The team at ARTSies is very responsive - whether it's through email, text, or phone calls. If I have a question I need a response to, they respond back almost immediately and that's very important, especially if it's something urgent. My daughter has been with them for 2 years and their communication, for example, about classes, the venue, rehearsals, the show, etc. is always very regular and very consistent.

(5) Advice and tips

Try them out. We did and we stayed! Or check out their YouTube channel, watch the videos, show them to your child, and see if this is something they would enjoy doing. Check out ARTSies' Facebook as well, they also post stories and videos about the camps, the students, and the shows. They also have Bring a Friend Day. Contact the program and find out if/how your child can participate.
