The Our Kids review of Astronomy in Action Space Rangers

    our take

Send your kids to space on their next break. Astronomy in Action Space Rangers is a very unique camp, held in a 4K portable planetarium. Here, kids will learn all about space, fly a space mission, and even create their own planets. What’s unique about this camp is that it is all about space from morning to night. If your kid can imagine it, they will experience it at Astronomy in Action Space Rangers. Kids get to real astronauts and other space experts, so they can learn right from the people who’ve experienced space in real life. The kids who do best at this camp are the ones who are curious and who want to learn about space. Even kids with special needs or behavioural issues can do well here, as there is always a good distraction away from the current activity if they aren’t engaging with it. Kids leave this program with so much knowledge about space, but with so many more questions to be answered.

What’s unique about Astronomy in Action Space Rangers?

So the Astronomy in Action Space Rangers program was unlike anything I've ever seen before. It was so neat how they had a camp focused solely on astronomy and on space. And my daughter loves this stuff. So the camp was a perfect fit.

Plus, they had so many hands-on activities. They brought in this huge planetarium and all the kids could go inside and they'd show constellations and demonstrations, and my daughter loved that. They also brought in different speakers and experts to talk about things that they're passionate about. And my daughter also loved the crafts, the games, and the food. She also loved all the contests.

How did you know that Astronomy in Action Space Rangers was the right fit?

I realized that this camp was a really good fit for her because after each day, she'd come back and she'd run to me and tell me all these different space facts. She'd say, “Did you learn about this star or this planet?” And of course, we as parents don't know about it. So it was really neat to hear. And we've noticed that after the camp she became more confident. She was also just more joyful and engaging. She really enjoyed the camp and had a great time.

Was there any noticeable personal growth in your child after her time at Astronomy in Action Space Rangers?

I noticed that after attending the camp, my daughter seemed to have more of a desire and thirst for learning about astronomy and space. So whether it's the Mars Rover Or the new space photos that emerged, she was just really interested in learning about that and seeing the photos. And even when we go camping, she's always pointing out different stars and different constellations. And it's neat just to see that a summer camp can actually really bring about this change where she actually loves and wants to study space and just read all about it.

How can a parent support their child to get the most out of Astronomy in Action Space Rangers?

I think you just need to focus on your child's interest. Whether they want to watch YouTube videos about space or read books about it, it's a great way for them to just develop their thirst and knowledge for space. So once they go to camp, if there's a certain topic that they love, then I'd encourage the parents to just take them to the library and just learn more about the topic and just really feed that thirst for knowledge.

What does your child say about Astronomy in Action Space Rangers?

Noah has definitely talked about the camp. She says it's super fun and engaging. And she says that she really wants to go back again. She wanted to go back for two weeks, but they only had one week available. She would probably love to go for the whole summer if she could.

      Final thoughts?

I would highly recommend that if you have a child who loves space, this is the camp for them. This is the perfect camp. We found such a great fit. The director, Ryan, is amazing. All the instructors there were just so passionate with the kids, and they were so engaging that I would highly recommend to any parent who has a child who loves space or is even considering anything space-related to definitely sign them up because you won't regret it. It was a great experience.
