Whitchurch Equestrian (previously known as Whitchurch Riding Academy) is the longest running equestrian academy & summer riding camp in the GTA (since 1979), with qualified instructors accredited by the Ontario Camps Association, Ontario Equestrian, and Equine Canada. We teach English riding from beginner, intermediate to advanced with a positive, hands-on approach to horsemanship. Facilities include large indoor & outdoor rings on 10 rolling acres, in-ground pool with certified lifeguard, arts & crafts barn, plus 24 horses! Daily busing is available from 5 stops in Toronto & York Region (see current COVID restrictions).

Free tours of facilities are available during the spring. Email us to arrange a free visit!  Secure summer camp registration can be completed online from our website.

Beginner Riders

Campers start their one-hour formal English-Riding lessons with leaders, soon mastering the fundamental skills of riding on their own in a safe environment. With a focus on safety, additional hands-on horsemanship activities include grooming, tacking, bathing, feeding, and general horse care.  Rounding out a full day is a supervised recreational swim in our in-ground pool, plus horsemanship games, fun rides, singsongs, and arts & craft activities!

Intermediate & Advanced Riders

Experienced riders are challenged with advanced horsemanship activities that include nutrition, show grooming, basic first aid for horses, and much more! Equestrian disciplines include dressage, jumping, mounted games, and musical rides.

A Second Lesson

Every rider will enjoy two formal riding lesson each day!

Safety

Qualified riding instructors are certified in First Aid & CPR and horses are fully schooled to ensure your child's safety. A certified NLS lifeguard is at the pool at all times. For daily busing from Toronto & York Region, a certified school bus & driver are used (see COVID restrictions). We are fully accredited by the Ontario Camps Association, Ontario Equestrian and Equine Canada.

Don't Forget!

Pack a lunch and snack (no nuts), and bring plenty of fluids. Campers will need a hat, protective sun lotion, swimsuit, and long pants for riding. An approved ASTM/SEI riding helmet is mandatory, and can be rented. Boots with a heel and smooth sole are required for riding (rain boots work fine).  We email a list of reminders on the Wednesday before camp.

Risk Awareness Form

A Risk Awareness Form is included with the online registration form. Please read carefully. The form must be completed and signed by the legal Parent/Guardian for each camper attending camp.

Ontario Camps Association (OCA)

WRA Riding Camp is fully accredited by the OCA, and adheres to over 600 standards dealing with all aspects of camp operation, including health & safety, leadership, training, staffing, service, maintenance, programming, and administration.

Ontario Equestrian & Equine Canada

Whitchurch Riding Academy is the longest established riding academy in the GTA (40 years), and teaches riders of all ages and levels all year round. WRA is a proud member member of Ontario Equestrian and Equine Canada and offers Rider Level Programs.

Trust Whitchurch Riding for a positive, safe, and inclusive learning experience!

Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Physicality: Horseback riding is a great form of exercise which has both cardiovascular and muscle conditioning benefits. Although it may seem the rider is not engaging in much physical exercise, an hour's activity can burn similar calories to that of a 30-minute jog or bicycle ride.
  • Independence: Developing a relationship bond and sense of trust between yourself and your horse is truly rewarding. And learning to control and care for an animal much larger than yourself builds confidence and self-assurance.
