“The sooner we learn to be jointly responsible, the easier the sailing will be.”
― Ella Maillart, Swiss adventurer & Sailor
Sailing is a perfect activity to build teamwork and leadership because participants have to work together to take the helm, set the sail, and turn the boat. The journey on the water creates a natural team bonding environment as the participants collaborate to control the sailboat in constantly changing conditions.
The Howe Sound Sailing & Discovery trip is designed to help teenagers better understand the essence of great leadership and followership through a challenging adventure. The participants will learn not only the sailing skill but also how to communicate effectively with team members to get the boat moving forward.
We invite your children to join this trip to discover the culture & nature in Squamish, and most importantly, the "true self" of your children.
Day 1: Cultural experience
Howe Sound and Squamish are the destinations for the trip, where Indigenous people, the Squamish and Shishalh, have lived and roamed for thousands of years. We will visit Squamish Cultural Centre in Whistler to learn about the geography, history, culture, and people on the land and water; what’s more, the participants have a chance to craft their own traditional medicine pouch out of buckskin.
Day 2: Sailing Day
The sailing day is the most exciting part of the journey. Participants will head up to Squamish for a day-long sailing trip through Howe Sound. Under the guidance of instructors, the participants are in good hands and are expected to have an extraordinary learning experience.
Day 3: Sea to Sky Gondola + Hike
Participants will take a gondola ride up to the world-class trails in the Squamish area. They can give themselves a period of time to reflect on what they’ve learned during the trip while doing a 2-hour loop hike.
