TWC's Youth Windsurfing Camp is the only specialty windsurfing day camp in Ontario.  With excellent instructors, modern equipment and a convenient location near Cherry Beach in Toronto, the Camp is a great way for kids to learn an amazing new sport, get fit and have fun.  

In 2018, the TWC Youth Windsurfing Camp was named as one of Toronto's top day camps by Savvymom.ca and Todaysparent.com .  Also, TWC's Head Coach won Ontario Sailing's 2018 Leadership Award for "exceptional leadership in a learn to sail program".

Who can come

* Ages 10 to 17 by Dec 31

* No experience necessary

* Must be able to swim 25 meters independently

Schedule

* One-week sessions in July and August

* Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

* Drop off from 8:30 a.m/ Pick up until 4:30 p.m. Extended hours available.

Instruction and Activities

* All skill levels from beginner to advanced.  Certificates are based on national standards from Sail Canada.

* Excellent instructors with all required safety training, motor boat permits and teaching certifications.  Low student:teacher ratios of less than 5:1 on average.

* Activities include Stand Up Paddling (SUP), beach volleyball, ultimate frisbee and windsurf cruises to Toronto Island.

Equipment

* All windsurfing equipment is provided.

* Life jackets, wetsuits and booties are also provided but some kids prefer to bring their own.

* TWC has invested in high quality equipment for all ages, sizes and skill levels to help kids learn fast.

Programming Details

Instruction is based on CANSail Windsurf, the national training standards for windsurfing from Sail Canada.

Beginner - CANSail 1

An introductory course for kids with no previous experience.   Key skills and concepts include:

  • Uphauling and steering
  • Basic tacks and gybes
  • Rigging, launching/landing and water safety

Consolidating Basics - CANSail 2

A basic course for kids who have completed CANSail 1 or equivalent. Key skills and concepts include:

  • Improved balance and control in winds up to 12 knots
  • Fast tacks and pivot gybes
  • Right of way rules, basic sailing theory and seamanship.

Intermediate/Advanced - CANSail 3/4

An intermediate to advanced course for kids who have completed CANSail 2 or equivalent.  Key skills and knowledge include:

  • Board handling and control in planing conditions
  • Harness and basic footstrap technique
  • Introduction to racing and freestyle (with focus on fun and skill development and not just competition)
