Participants aged 13 years and older will learn the fundamentals of comedy, learn how to structure a joke, basics of sketch, as well as build characters, write scenes, and more! Students will also have the opportunity to perform at Christmas and Spring Studio Recitals, as well as host their own (optional) "open mic" night once a month where they can test out material and hone their craft with a LIVE studio audience.
Character Development: This program helps build the following traits
Resilience: Comedians are some of the most resilient people in the performing arts field - they take adversity and turn it into comedy and a life lesson. They share experiences, while learning to cope with their differences. And of course, have to deal in real time with hecklers and interruptions.
Interpersonal skills: Communication is key with comedy. Whether you are speaking to an audience of strangers, or on stage silently working with your scene partner - improv class will help you communicate effectively and efficiently in any situation.
