Life all over planet Earth is more connected than you might think! 

From the plants in your backyard to the mushrooms we eat, to the fish in the Great Lakes, many plants, insects and animals need each other just to survive. In this course, you will see how important it is to understand how species live and interact. We will begin to understand. Will you begin your journey to understand the living world around us? Now is your chance! 

Designed to inspire and challenge independent learners, students will complete daily modules and activities at their own pace. They will also have the opportunity to join at least two live sessions to interact and meet with their instructor and fellow peers.  ESU is where students can discover a future career!

What will you learn?

  • how living and non-living things work together and the threats they face
  • understand how ecosystems and species live and interact
  • discover biodiversity and population competition
  • understand and apply how living and non-living things work together
  • study threats that face species and their ecosystems.

How will you learn?

  • through self-guided learning, activities, and expert lectures
  • using the Queen's University Online learning platform: onQ
  • engaging in group and independent activities
  • through online experiments, demonstrations, discussions
  • using research case studies
