The Our Kids Children’s Fund

Summer Camp Bursary

Helping ensure that more kids, more often, are able to go to camp.

Camp changes the lives of children and youth. A camp experience will grow self-confidence and foster new skills; it will build emotional intelligence and life skills that contribute to becoming a healthy and happy adult. The more children that attend summer camp, the better our future will be.

The Our Kids Children’s Fund provides camp bursaries (sometimes called camp scholarships, camperships or financial aid) to help remove some of the financial barriers that exist between families, campers, and camp.

Who is eligible and how are funds distributed?

  • Any Canadian wishing to attend an Our Kids member day or overnight summer camp is eligible for funding. Note: Applications must be submitted by the Camp Directors or their proxy, on behalf of the parent/child.
  • The Our Kids Children’s Fund is managed by an impartial board of directors tasked with considering all eligible applications.
  • Applicants that are directly associated with any member of the board of directors, members of the families of the board, as well as of those employed by Our Kids are not eligible beneficiaries of the bursary program.
  • Recipients will be chosen by the board after careful consideration of all eligible applications.
  • The amount of each disbursement will be decided by the board. It may match the amount requested in the application, be less or more, as determined through consideration of need and available funds.
  • Each disbursement will provide partial funding for one camp session per application. Disbursements will not exceed 50% of the session fee.

How to apply?

Eligible applications for the Our Kids Children’s Fund Camp Bursary must be submitted by Camp Directors or their proxies, on behalf of the parent/child. If you are a child or parent requesting funding, please share this fund with your camp and they will apply on your behalf.

About Our Kids Children’s Fund

In 1997, Our Kids Media was launched to make more families aware of the benefits of summer camp. More than 20 years later, our mission remains the same, namely to grow awareness around a core concept: camp as an experience. Our work is based on a fundamental understanding of the value of camp in the lives of children.

We see the Children’s Fund as a continuation of the goal of bringing those benefits to a wider audience. Most importantly, it’s an opportunity to ensure that more kids, more often, are able to go to camp.
