Private Singing Lessons

Private voice lessons at CBY Music and Performing Arts are tailored to meet the needs of the individual and help them to achieve their specific goals.

Voice lessons are delivered using the following 3 pathways:

Repertoire Path:
The repertoire pathway puts a greater emphasis on learning and performing songs. Repertoire can extend across a variety of genres, from classical to musical theatre to contemporary pop, and focuses on the joy of singing and confidence building. General musicianship is taught experientially through the act of singing repertoire. 

Exam Path:
Students wishing to earn their singing qualifications can do so with CBY. We are an accredited Royal Conservatory of Music academy and our RCM certified teachers will lead the student through all the requirements to prepare and succeed in their exams. Students interested in more traditional styles (classical, folk, musical theatre) earn their qualifications with the RCM and students interested in contemporary styles of singing (pop, rock, jazz etc) earn their qualifications with Conservatory Canada. These qualifications can also earn students a high school credit for Grade 11 and Grade 12 and are widely recognized and respected.

Performance Path:
This pathway is for students who wish to grow as both a singer and a performer of songs. Similar to the repertoire pathway, students will also be coached in the art of stagecraft - how to connect with an audience, how to deliver the emotional intent of a song and how to make appropriate blocking choices. 

Students can choose to mix all three pathways, just focus on one or switch pathways as their objectives change. We have found that this bespoke method of training accommodates the evolving goals of the young singer and keeps them working towards a multitude of music based milestones.

All singing students, regardless of path, are given the chance to perform in our biannual student concert series, as well as take part in annual singing competitions and festivals, both local and provincial, with the chance to win cash scholarships and gain valuable performance and growth experiences.

Private lessons are 30 minutes per week, after school and at weekends, and occur on a monthly rolling basis. Monthly tuition fees vary depending on the lesson day. Please contact us to find out about availability.
