  • Insider Reviews & Perspectives

The Our Kids review of Bishop’s College School Summer Camps

    our take

Bishop's was founded in 1836, becoming co-ed in 1972 through an amalgamation with King's Hall Compton. That long history is apparent in the traditions that remain at the school, and is apparent throughout the campus. We live in noisy world, and the site offers a nice bit of conceptual and geographic distance from it, and the environment is part of the draw for the summer programs. Participants arrive from around the world, creating a kind of United Nations for four weeks of the summer. The immersion in language is complete, both during classes, on campus, and during field trips. If there’s a better environment in which to learn a language, we’ve not found it.

I learned more in one month at the BCS Summer Language Camp than I did in a year at my regular school. - Elizabeth (Quebec, Canada)

  • What's New

    Director's Message

Melissa Rowe, Director of Summer Camps and Auxiliary Programs

Thank you for looking in to the BCS Summer Camp! Our camp is ( as our academic director would say) the perfect mix of summer and school! Our small class sizes allow our students to get a great experience from the classroom as well as ample amounts of opportunity to get extra help from teachers. Our monitors and houseparents create daily fun activities for our students to burn their energy and get to know each other! I have been working with the camp for 5 years now and I can not wait for all the great new things we have in store for the summer of 2020!

    • Camp Reflections
Yumi Muramatsu (Shizuoka City, Japan) We could choose a sport every week. We enjoyed the sports together, we communicated and made friends. We had activities twice a week in the afternoon and I enjoyed all of them. My friend even went horseback riding…she was very excited about that! Through this summer camp I learned not only English but also other cultures in the world. I think it was a rare experience. At first I thought 28 days was too long but now I think it went by too fast!” Robin Garsaud (Martinique) “This year I chose to return to the BCS Summer Language Camp to continue improving my English skills. At BCS you can learn English or French. The classes are adapted to your level, which is determined by a placement test at the beginning of camp. The teachers are attentive, helpful and can help you work with your problems because there are not very many students in each class. Stephanie Bouthiette (Granby, QC) “I have been coming to the BCS Summer Language Camp for five summers! The main reason why I keep returning here is because of the activities, the friends, and classes, which are entertaining and enjoyable. We always have a lot to do every day between activities, sports, class, and friends so we don’t even have time to miss our family!” Salome Blervaque (Sherbrooke, QC) “My brother went to the BCS Summer Language Camp in 2009. When he got back home he couldn’t stop saying how much he liked it and how cool his summer was. So during this past school year I hassled my mom to let us both go in 2010 (I made her send in the application form in November because I wanted to be sure to have a spot) and she said yes! Now that it’s over we both can’t stop talking about how much fun we had…and we both want to go back in 2011! Camila Farres Rodriguez (Caracas, Venezuela) “I loved my experience at BCS because I had a lot of pleasure with my friends at the same time that I was practicing my English because it was the only way I could communicate with some of them. Classes were fun because we learned in ways we could not forget!”
