This course is designed to help students develop their creative writing skills and provides students with an opportunity to channel their inner Alice Munro as they delve into the world of short story writing! Class instruction will cover the development of key short story elements: character, setting, conflict, plot, and theme. Students learn about these elements by both reading and analyzing short stories and writing their own. Students are asked to bring a personal laptop with access to Microsoft Word.

The Appleby College Summer Academy offers a wide range of academic enrichment courses to suit students with different backgrounds and different needs. We offer small class sizes, with no more than 15 students per class, with an average of 10. Lunch will be provided at the school for students who register for full day courses. Courses offered are subject to enrollment and may be cancelled prior to the session commencement due to insufficient enrollment; in this case, students will be offered a full refund.
