A really cool game-based program, the ACBL Educational Foundation is offering a free online course to help kids learn contract bridge. In partnership with BridgeWhiz, kids learn beginner bridge from certified bridge teachers and their assistants. Once they master the skills needed, kids have opportunities to play in youth tournaments locally, nationally, even internationally. Once kids graduate, they get a free, one-year junior membership in the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). The instructors are helpful and cheerful and passionate about teaching kids the skills to play bridge and keep it alive. Kids have a great time learning. They also make friends with the other kids easily, as they have the shared interest in playing skill games like bridge. They often will join up to play other skill games like chess or other types of cards. With this free program, there’s absolutely nothing to lose by signing kids up.
