Is your child hungry for FUN? If so, then Rooks to Cooks has the camp for you! With 8 programs to choose from, our cooking camps are ideal for aspiring chefs of any level. Through the preparation of 4+ recipes daily, campers learn fundamental cooking skills and how to safely navigate a kitchen. Hands-on, educational, team-based and FUN; R2C is your child's recipe for Success!

    Join us Monday, March 25 from 04:00 pm - 06:00 pm

    Hungry for AFTER SCHOOL Fun? Check out Rooks to Cooks' new Spring After School Cooking Programs! Students, ages 8-14, will gain valuable experience cooking homemade, delicious and nutritious meals! Chef instructors will engage children with fun, team-based cooking lessons that are jam-packed with recipes and samples to take home every week. Classes are 2 hours long from 4:00 - 6:00 PM and will run on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Start dates are during the week of March 25, 2019. With only 14 spots per session, visit website for more information and to register.

    Here's a rundown of the Programs:

    • 2 themes to choose from: (1) Around the World Round Trip: Through the exploration of 8 iconic food cultures, students will learn foundational cooking skills and an appreciation for different cultures; and (2) Sweet & Savoury:  Students will learn essential culinary and pastry skills by alternating between sweet & savoury recipes every week. It's the best of both worlds!
    • Rooks to Cooks programs are always team-based and fun, not to mention jam-packed with recipes and samples to take home every week. Students will get a digital copy of the recipes to practice at home.
    • Chef Shai and her team are ready to cook up some fun! Children will have the opportunity to learn how to cook and bake from professional chefs.
    • Only 14 spots per session. There will be 3 staff present during the class, that's a 1:5 staff to student ratio, to ensure optimal safety and education.
    • Registration Fee is $410 for 7-week session (Monday); $465 for 8 Weeks (Tues., Wed., or Thurs.); price includes chef coat, apron and cut-safe glove, but students who already have a R2C uniform will be able to opt out and save on the full registration fee.

Shai Mandel, Founder and CEO

Rooks to Cooks was founded by Chef Shai Mandel, a chef and teacher. Shai has been working in kitchens her whole life, having a passion for food and cooking since childhood. While completing a Kinesiology degree at Wilfrid Laurier University, she would spend her free time working in the culinary industry, dedicated to perfecting her skills. In her 9+ years working as a chef, Shai has worked with some of the most renowned chefs in Canada, especially appreciating the friendship and guidance she received from Jonathan Goodyear, executive chef for Magna Golf Club and finalist of Top Chef Canada, Season 3. Shai has held various positions in all aspects of the industry from pastry and large quantity production, to fine dining. During her career as a chef, Shai had the opportunity to train many people in various positions. It was through this training that she discovered not only her passion for cooking, but her passion for teaching.

Shai attended teachers college at Wilfrid Laurier University, officially becoming an Ontario Certified Teacher in 2015. While working as a student teacher for the Waterloo Region School Board, Shai organized and implemented various cooking after-school programs and events, falling in love with teaching youth how to cook and bake. She held the position of Lead Instructor at Summer Chef School in Waterloo, where she developed the curriculum and lessons for the school. During this experience, she had the privilege of teaching over 320 kids of all ages the culinary arts. Since then, Shai had a vision of opening her own children's cooking school in Toronto. This dream became a reality with the birth of Rooks to Cooks.

The summer camp is also great, the pop-up restaurant at the end of the week is awesome. It's a full scale production and kids have a blast.
