What do you do differently or uniquely well?

"HOC offers a unique experience to all campers which allows any overnight program to bunk in the same cabin as their friends from other programs. "

Who are your staff and counsellors?

"Our tradition of excellence is built upon the strength of our staff. Each staff member brings with them commitment, enthusiasm and compassion for children. All HOC staff training is designed around four core principles: Community, Leadership, Accountability & Performance. Each staff member is trained and evaluated on their delivery of these four principles on a daily basis. This creates a very positive camp atmosphere for our children."

What do families need to know about registration?

"We use a database called Campsite. To begin registration, parents must create an account or log in with an existing account. HOC accepts registrations on a first come first serve basis, so register early to guarantee your spot! There are 4 steps to the enrollment process which include choosing their program/session, enrollment questions, forms, and terms/conditions. The Our Kids review of Hockey Opportunity Camp

    our take

Fun, adventure, and team spirit are all on the docket at Hockey Opportunity Camp (HOC). Kids can expect good times and sweaty heads, paired with waterskiing, archery, mountain biking, and, of course, hockey. You don’t have to love hockey to attend—the camp has other programs that don’t include ice time. But for those where hockey is life, HOC offers an elite on-ice summer skills training program combined with the traditional camp experience. Kids don’t have to sacrifice summer camp while keeping their hockey legs, and the escape from the city into the scenic Almaguin Highlands can be magical. Friends can bunk together, no matter what program they’re in, but there are ample opportunities to make new friendships. This big camp has a small camp feel with staff who are trained and invested in making camp a positive experience for all. HOC has a long and storied history starting in 1966, with its start as a sports camp that lower-income parents could afford. The current owners, the McLaughlin family (Kevin McLaughlin was a former camper and counsellor at HOC), strive to keep to the roots of the camp and create camp opportunities for as many kids as possible. They do this by keeping the rates below most other overnight summer sport camps. Kids will not forget their time at HOC, both the skills they learn and the memories they make.

    Check-In Process

This was our first year at HOC and we were blown away by the process on arrival. It's reassuring to know that you are leaving your child in such good hands with solid processes and policies in place.

    Great Camp for New Campers

I continue to promote HOC as a great place to send your kids- especially those who have never been away before. We've had two kids in our group now who went to camp for the first time as teens and they both loved it. The check-in process for new parents is always excellent and the follow up email to new parents is always so nice. The greeting staff at the road when you get there is always nice to see. When we checked in and bought a new bucket hat the staff were very attentive to ensure that we didn't need anything, we were always being approached which is great ... Show More

    Very Positive

Everything, they teach you about being punctual, manners in the dinning lounge, the activities and most of all, have fun, meeting new friends and oh ya trying to be a better hockey player. Most of all, teaching you to become an adult, but still being a kid. ... Show More

    Definitely Returning Next Summer

My kids had a blast. I heard nothing but wonderful things the entire way home. The counsellors were amazing, fun and caring. The food is apparently amazing...they went on and on about that. Well done by all. I can't say enough and hopeful to recruit more of their friends next summer ... Show More

    Director's Message

    Kevin McLaughlin, Camp Director
Over 35 years at HOC, as a camper, staff member and business owner.

    Dear Parents,

I sincerely hope you will consider Hockey Opportunity Camp (HOC) for your son or daughter this summer.  Since 1966, the HOC experience has provided campers with the opportunity for improved self-confidence, friendship, individual challenge and improved skill development – all in a safe and enjoyable camp environment.

HOC is a camp for children with a variety of interests; those who play hockey and for those who don't. Offering three main program specialties: Hockey, Ultimate Traditional Camp and Water Skiing, campers can choose what they are most interested in, yet bunk and spend time with friends who are enrolled in a different specialty program. HOC is a camp for everyone.

By offering one-week camp sessions and being located only three hours north of Toronto, campers can enjoy a beautiful northern Ontario camp experience without the fear of being away from home for too long. Staff and campers from all over the world attend HOC, creating a diverse and inclusive camp environment.

HOC is the “The Ultimate Hockey And Summer Camp Experience”. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns about your child's stay with us this summer.

    Regards,

    Stories

    • Camp Life at HOC
Camp life is the foundation that ties all of the activities and programs together at Hockey Opportunity Camp. There is magic to camp life that turns activities into experiences, cabin bunkmates into friends and young children into self-confident individuals. Our camp is about people in motion - learning, sharing and enjoying. It is a self-contained community where memories are formed by experiences shared with friends and staff. One of the features of our camp is the diversity of those living in the community. We attract children from across Canada, the United States and abroad. Developing relationships with children from around the world is an important part of our camper's experience. Our community provides campers with an opportunity to learn about each other’s differences, but more importantly about their similarities. "There are no strangers within . . . only friends waiting to be met."
    • Parent Letter
Just a quick note to let you know that my kids are hooked on HOC! My son and daughter just completed a week with you and had nothing but raving reviews. We have been involved in a number of high end Muskoka summer camps, and they don't come close to HOC. Every staff member that they interacted with was a positive influence on them. All of their activities were highly organized and enjoyed by every camper. The week flew by and they asked to stay another week when I arrived for their Saturday Scrimmage game. Well done HOC!!
    • Long Time Camper and Staff Member
Hey HOC Staff, It is very seldom that a week should go by when I don't find myself day dreaming about my time spent at HOC. Between being a camper(for what seemed like a lifetime) to becoming a counsellor(which went by way too fast), I have 12 summers of memories that I will keep with me forever. I found myself looking through the pictures of all the staff and campers on your web site and was a little sad that I can no longer take part in all of these experiences. It is amazing to think that so many of my past campers are now on staff, and that the older and more experienced staff still are able to find the time to return year after year. Enjoy your time at HOC, because even though some weeks can be tough, your summer and your time there will be over in no time.
    • Letter from a First TIme Parent
I just want to thank everyone for making my son's first time at camp a memorable experience. He is always telling me about different stories and memories from his time with you. He really enjoyed everything, including the staff, campers, waterskiing and hockey. I loved being able to email him and the fact that you had pictures of the campers updated daily on your website was amazing. You are doing a wonderful job. You are making a difference in many children's summers and creating unforgettable memories. We will definitely be back next year and my son hopes to become staff when he is older.
