Tamakwa Teaser Day is 100 Days Away!
We are very excited to announce THE TAMAKWA TEASER, a one day session for campers between the ages of 6-10 taking place on FRIDAY, JULY 17, 2015... that is just 100 days from today!
During this one day session campers will have an opportunity to try many of our exciting activities, view live demonstrations from our campers and staff, and get a feel for Tamakwa’s spirit, energy and 79 year history.
This incredible, jam-packed day is the perfect way to give your first-time campers a small taste of what residential summer camp life in majestic Algonquin Park, Ontario is all about. (Click Here to see videos and slideshows from recent Teaser Days)
THE TAMAKWA TEASER will once again be led by Tamakwa alum Nancy Steinhauer. Nancy attended Tamakwa for 14 summers and is currently principal at George Webster Elementary School in Toronto. At Tamakwa, Nancy was a camper, Drama Director, and Junior Tamakwan Director (in charge of our 7-9 year old campers). Her passion for children and commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment for kids makes her the ideal person to spearhead this exciting day. Nancy’s 12-year-old son Sammy will be a fifth-year Tamakwa camper this coming summer.
The bus will depart from Toronto at 7am and will return at 9pm.
Registration fee is $50 (includes transportation, three meals, snacks and taxes).

Singer Songwriter Amy Sky - Camp Tamakwa Alumni
http://www.ourkids.net/camp/the-essentials-article.php?id=161 Amy Sky, best known for her songs I Will Take Care of You and Love, Pain and the Whole Damn Thing. had never sung in public until she was 15 years old at Camp Tamakwa. She'd been studying classical cello, but when the staff and campers put on an evening of Gershwin, Sky had to step out of her comfort zone and step into the American songbook. Now having written songs for Anne Murray, Olivia Newton-John and Sheena Easton, Amy Sky reflects back on the "warm and supportive environment of camp", saying that "it increases your confidence, since you get positive feedback just for trying something new." During the seven years that her own daughter attended Tamakwa, Sky held annual songwriting sessions with campers. Working with cabin groups, she'd help the campers rewrite the lyrics to popular songs to reflect their own experience. Camp Tamakwa Teams up with Adventure Valley Day Camp
Beginning in the summer of 2010, Camp Tamakwa began hosting a group of eager young campers from Toronto's Adventure Valley Day Camp for an exciting new overnight experience. For 4 very special days in August, a limited number of Adventure Valley Day Camp campers are treated to a taste of Camp Tamakwa's hospitality and introduced to our campers, staff, activities, and traditions. This is great for our campers enabling them to show off Tamakwa's energy and spirit, not to mention beautiful Algonquin Park. During their time at Tamakwa, the Adventure Valley campers are accompanied by some of their own staff and also have a few dedicated Tamakwa staff, as well as cabins dedicated only for their use. The Adventure Valley family has well over 20 years of day camp experience and they share Tamakwa's core values of family, spirit, compassion, and traditional camp fun, all in a safe and nurturing environment. We are excited to continue to help provide new Toronto area campers a few days at Tamakwa combining the best of both day and residential camp life for them this summer and for many summers to come. ...
Roots Clothing Company Founder at Camp Tamakwa
"It's safe to say," says Roots clothing company co-founder Michael Budman, "that there might not be a Roots if there hadn't been Camp Tamakwa." Growing up in Detroit, Michigan, Budman had attended some local camps, but at age 10 he was ready for the big-time- Camp Tamakwa, the 75-year-old Canadian-American camp set on the shores of Algonquin Park's South Tea Lake in northern Ontario. "It's one of the most beautiful campsites in the world - a magical place," says Budman. It's also where he and fellow camper Don Green became buddies and hatched their plan to open a shoe store in Toronto that eventually grew into an international clothing empire.
