A friend told me that the York Regional Police Force were running a camp for troubled teens this year at Algonquin Park. When is this taking place?

    Is this helpfull?
The York Regional Police Force does hold Youth Opportunity (for grades 6 and 7) and Youth Leadership (for grades 4 and 5) Camps. Visit their website and give them a call and they should be able to provide you with the information.

If you're looking for a summer program for troubled teens in Ontario, Venture Academy runs an excellent specialized camp in Barrie. (They also have a location in Kelowna, BC)

Many specialty schools for troubled teens also run summer camp programs that are extremely good, so we suggest that you connect with them to find which program will be best for your child.

York Regional Police are running a new crime prevention program for at-risk youth, however it is not a 'camp' program. The program will involve a number of components one of which is a wilderness component. The program is one year in length and focuses on mentoring, positive relationship building and skill building of youth. A press release will be issued before summer 2010 to inform members of the public of the program, it's goals and objectives.

Most traditional or adventure camps are designed to challenge youth and provide the supportive environment that has proven to be effective in helping troubled teens realize their potential. For youth aged 13+ I'd suggest an adventure camp or tripping program. Look into Paddles in Action, Paddlefoot or Pathfinder Camps. The results are amazing!
