My child takes medicine daily. How do camps handle that? Do overnight camps have medical staff on-site? |

Is this helpfull? |

Virtually all camps require the completion of a confidential medical form for each camper so that, as necessary, appropriate staff can be made aware of your child's medical condition or needs. Most residential camps have on-site medical staff responsible for storage and administration of all medications, careful medical recordkeeping, tending to any health-care or first-aid needs that arise, and so on. |

Most camps have clearly laid out policies and procedures, which they're happy to explain to you. Just ask.

It varies from camp to camp even regionally. Most ACA accredited camps have medical staff which may include combinations of physicians, nurses, emts and med techs. For example, the Camp that I run has 2 RNs on duty 24/7 with a consulting physician available at the nearby Urgent Care Center. www.campspeersymca.org

Great answers, Cherie.
Another great idea to help parents be comfortable with sending their child's meds to camp are custom blister packs that you can make up (or have your pharmacist). That way you know the pills are properly organized for the correct times - takes some of the thinking out of the process for the camp nurse.
