Can I find out how my child is doing at her first overnight camp?

    Is this helpfull?
Check beforehand whether you can call the camp office to speak with the camp director or your child's counsellor. Ask if there's a good time to call or if it's best to leave a message and have someone get back to you about how your child is adjusting. Give your child a few days at camp before phoning, so the staff have a chance to spend some time with and get to know your child.

At our camp we allow parents to call as much as once a day to check on their child. The camper's counsellor will be happy to take 5 or 10 minutes just to fill you in on how things are going.

Most camps will welcome your call to one of the directors - though getting a call back may take a bit as most of the camp staff are busy with the campers. Most camps will also call parents of those children having problems or concerns - to solicit suggestions and / or to give the parents a "heads up" Before sending your child to camp the first time, I recommend that you ask the prospective camp's directors how they handle these situations. Our camp counselors all write a short note each week to each of their campers' parents to let them know how things are going. Good luck. www.campspeersymca.org
