What if my child is homesick?

    Is this helpfull?
Staff are well trained and very experienced in handling any sort of behaviour situation that arises at camp, and homesickness is probably the biggie. Being homesick is a natural, healthy emotion? It is good to know kids care about home and family so much that they miss them. In addition to knowing they have your understanding and support, kids have the support of all camp staff as they cope with their feelings.

Experience shows that within a couple of days, kids are active and engaged and enjoying camp life?and often wish camp could continue when the session ends!

Camps have great advice and proven-to-work suggestions about dealing with homesickness. Here is some more expert advice on Beating the Blues

We have chosen to rename this Missing Home - it's not a sickness: everybody misses home.

Keeping kids active and engaged in camp life is the best way to skip right over Homesickness. If I could give parents 1 tip to improve your child's chances of making it through a camp session it would be this: Never tell your child that they can just call you and you will come pick them up. For some reason having this possibility tends to make a child less committed to the camp experience and inevitably means that the child will give up and beg to come home.
