There is no "qualifying" age, but age-appropriate independence and maturity should be considered. Kids from kindergarten to high school age can spend some or all of their summers at a camp. Parents sometimes think their child is "too young," but camps don't identify their minimum age without foundation. Camp age ranges are based on factors such as program considerations, activities and location, the facilities and staff capabilities, resources to meet the needs of children at different ages and so on. The other, and often more critical, side of the equation is the needs, wishes and circumstances of your child and your family. Even a family tradition of going to camp can have bearing. Talking candidly with camp representatives about your concerns, and expectations?and taking their comments to heart?is the best way for your child to have a positive camp experience.
